Local Experiences
Adventure Awaits in Sonoma County
Find exploration both on and off property, with six spacious acres and countless more beyond. At the Stavrand, we encourage you to choose your own path and wander with purpose — to adventure or unwind, remain connected, or completely disconnect. Relax at the hotel, or carpe diem with Healdsburg, Sebastopol, Santa Rosa, and the Pacific Coast just 25 minutes away in each cardinal direction.
California
Cheese Trail
Visit the wide array of local producers along this beloved small-roads route. Check out the herd of Alpine dairy goats at the Bohemian Creamery; experience proper British cheese at the nearby Wm. Cofield Cheesemakers; taste cheese in the style of the Portuguese Azores at the Matos Cheese Factory in Santa Rosa.
Sonoma Zipline Adventures
Take a thrilling ride above the canopy of Sonoma’s famed redwoods, flying from tree to tree amidst panoramic views. Multiple zip lines, sky bridges, and rappelling to the forest floor are all part of the adventure.
Parks and
Natural Vistas
Lose yourself in even more redwoods at the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, just 2.5 miles north of the Stavrand. Admire 1,400-year-old majestic trees and learn why insiders prefer this park to the more-touristed Muir Woods. Take a quick jaunt to the Jenner coast to Goat Rock Beach, part of the 17-mile stretch of the Sonoma Coast State Park, where you can spot whale migrations and visit a bustling sea lion colony. Or, pack a picnic lunch for the low-key Riverfront Regional Park with its small lakes, BBQ pits, and multi-use trails — dogs allowed!
Wineries
Explore the renowned Russian River Valley, with dozens of wineries within a 30-minute driving radius. Pinot noir and chardonnay remain the famed grapes of this temperate region, though one needn't venture far away to encounter other delicious varietals and blends as well. To broaden your horizons with tempranillo or albariño, for example, visit Marimar Estate where Stavrand guests enjoy a complimentary Classic Tasting (valued at $35pp, valid through December 2024).
Northwood
Golf Club
Consistently rated as one of the best short courses in the world, the Northwood Golf Club is only minutes away in Monte Rio, meandering down the Russian River. Designed by the famous Dr. Alister MacKenzie (who also created the Augusta National), this unique and beautiful course is set amidst the towering Redwoods.
Safari West
Visit the Serengeti, only 30 minutes away from the Stavrand. One of only 6 accredited private zoos in the United States, Safari West combines conservation, education, and the ability to get close to giraffes, rhinoceros, antelope, cheetahs, zebras, hyenas, and other exotic wildlife in a one-of-a-kind Sonoma experience.
Osmosis
Day Spa Sanctuary
Replenish and rejuvenate with a Cedar Enzyme Bath, a therapeutic body and massage treatment from Japan. Meditate in the Zen Gardens and partake in a tea ceremony before your Enzyme Bath to make the most of your restorative experience.
SUP Odyssey
Explore the Russian River atop a stand-up paddleboard instead of a traditional canoe. Offering lessons or just a brief orientation, this local company provides guidance for all skill levels.
Getaway Adventures
While the Stavrand offers kayaks equipment and bicycles for loan, larger groups or those looking for particular equipment and guides will enjoy these services. Pedal away on a bicycle adventure along the quiet back roads to small, family-owned wineries. Spend a day on the river with blue herons, egrets and even bald eagles! Hike along a customized tour of the Sonoma coastline or journey through the towering redwoods and rolling hills. Small groups and private tours are their specialty, and all skill levels are welcome.
